The everyday events of a mom

It’s been awhile since I’ve had a chance to blog.  I’ve actually had many chances, but between pregnancy, going back to work, and my ever-growing hobbies, blogging has come last.  So I have decided to come back with a bang and blog about life’s greatest achievement: love.

I have been lucky enough in life to never have gone a day without experiencing some form of love.  When I was a child, I remember days of cuddles, nights with goodnight kisses.  We had family time full of laughter, and some days love’s lesson was tough love.

Growing up, I watched Hollywood’s idea of love through the big screen, and I couldn’t wait for my own romantic comedy to begin.  How would it happen?  Would I try to stop the wedding of my best friend?  Would I meet a rebellious bad boy on vacation?  Would I be a famous writer who tried to break up with a guy but then ended up falling in love with him?  When would I get my first “foot-popping” kiss?

I met my Prince Charming in college (first in the dorms, but then truly in a bar).  No motion picture shares our story, and although the events of our courtship don’t have the makings of a blockbuster, it is our story, full of moments that make us us.

Growing older, my definition of love has changed.  Gone is the expectation of fireworks and grand gestures.  However, I found that the small things make lasting impressions.  Here is a small list demonstrating how I am fortunately able to experience love daily.

Love is:

  • coming home to dinner cooking when it was my turn to cook
  • reserving a weekend for just the three of us
  • kissing Charlie goodnight
  • an unexpected phone call from a friend
  • listening to daddy and baby giggles in the next room
  • a note from a student “Mrs. Brisson is the best.  Teachers no everything.”
  • a look over the dinner table
  • baby babble accompanied by baby hugs
  • when my gas tank is mysteriously filled
  • a kiss on the belly each night for Baby B
  • an ear that truly listens
  • family dinners
  • having efforts recognized

Even though days are filled with moments that make me feel extremely loved, it wasn’t easy to quickly compile a list.  Perhaps one day, I’ll just make a running list.  I’m just glad that the moments add up enough to help me realize how truly blessed I am.  Take that, Hollywood.
